Magnetic particle testing is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method used to detect surface and shallow subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. The test is performed by applying a magnetic field to the test object and then sprinkling iron powder on the surface. The iron powder is attracted to areas of high magnetic flux density, which indicates the presence of a discontinuity.
